Beginning with the May JamFest, we will have a “Slow Jam” at each monthly gathering. The goal is to learn some Old-Time tunes and to provide an environment for those new to jamming to get comfortable playing in our jams.
We’ve been fortunate to be given permission to use a group of recordings of common Old-Time tunes produced by Ed Gebauer of the Charlotte Folk Society in Charlotte, NC (www.folksociety.org). Our thanks to Mr. Gebauer for his generosity.
There are a lot of tunes available to us, giving us a nice variety from month to month. These tunes are in mp3 format and are at a slower tempo, making them easy to follow and learn. Additionally, there will be links to music/chord sheets in PDF format for those who would like to use them.
During the Slow Jam each month, we will be playing in a single key (changing keys each month) to allow those who play in specific tunings to set up their instruments in advance and play all the tunes in that month’s Slow Jam.
Links to the tunes will be posted here on the Kaufman JamFest website as well as on our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/kaufmanjamfest).
We would be delighted to have lots of folks taking part in our future jams as we learn these tunes together, so please help us spread the word and invite other musicians to join us.
